PUPPYTON RIDE EXPERIENCE
Just come by!
You do not need to register to join the Puppyton open community rides. Just show up at the Yellow Bridge well-prepared. Our Ride Captains will do a short briefing before each ride and we split up into the pace groups.
Please have the route on your head unit, inform yourself about the rules below, and bring some group riding experience (handling, navigation, hand signals).
Please don’t join if you are unable to adapt your usual way of riding in favor of the group dynamics! We reserve the right to exclude riders from our rides who don’t respect our rules below.
PACE GROUPS
Before we start any ride, we form 3 different pace groups. This guarantees that everyone is able to follow the wheels.
If in doubt, choose the lower level. You can try to ride in a faster group next time. We even encourage you to try that out and support you in your progress.
If you accidentally choose the wrong group, inform the ride captain, let the group go and wait for the next one. If a group is too slow for you respect your fellow riders and don’t overpace!
Regardless of which group, safety is our priority: On all cycling and shared paths we slow down to avoid dangerous situations with other road users.
-
Made for riders who are ready to push the limit. The pace is regularly over the 40 kph with attacks following on the climbs. #Ballern. Can´t keep up? Just drop back into the chasing group.
-
For ambitious riders with experience. It is fast, but not impossible. In this group, the rides are completed without major breaks, there is enough time for chit-chat on the bike!
-
The main group with a pleasant pace on the flats that waits up if someone falls behind. Breaks after climbs ensure everybody can catch their breath. A good baseride for strong riders, the perfect group ride for all those who train regularly.
OUR RULES
-
Helping goes a long way and builds a community. While we expect everyone to be on top of their own bike (pun intended), providing spare parts, waiting up for slower riders or giving advice - when asked for - is much appreciated. Caring over competition
-
A GPS bike computer is highly recommended, however we will not exclude anyone not being able to ride with a computer, but please make sure you know the route very well.
-
We ride in an organized manner and with the help of our ride captains try to make the group work well together. Respect the Ride Captain’s decision as they ensure the safety of everyone. They take responsibility for their group, making sure that the rules and the pace are respected. They represent Puppyton!
-
We try to minimize our impact on motorized traffic. We don’t provoke and don’t act aggressively. For training purposes, road cyclists are allowed to ride in two rows, side by side. We don’t ride wider than 2x2 (except for a short period while rotating turns on the front) and we may ride single-file if safety requires it.
-
We want to ride as safely as possible. When rotating back from a turn on the front ALWAYS move out to the left, even when we ride in a double row. In this case the first rider in the left row moves out first, followed by the first rider of the right row. With this procedure we want to keep a maximum of three rows (riders) side by side.
-
Always indicate danger spots, changes, stops and pass them through the entire group.
-
Stronger riders have more responsibility. When riding in front, act like a leader and consider the dynamics of a group and avoid dangerous situations by anticipation. Actively watch out for the weaker riders in your group.
-
Helmets are compulsory and the use of a racing bike is obligatory. But that doesn't mean that you should have the most expensive equipment. On the contrary, for us safety comes first.
-
Always wait on top of climbs, after descents and for riders that have fallen behind, except for the drop groups on Wednesday. We always want to keep the group as compact as possible throughout the whole ride.
